Transforming the Future of Women’s Healthcare & Research

Women’s Health Collective Canada (WHCC) is a strategic alliance between its founding members Women’s College Hospital Foundation (WCHF), Alberta Women’s Health Foundation and BC Women’s Health Foundation. This trio of leading women’s health and hospital foundations is united by a common cause: to build an equitable and inclusive future of healthcare and research that prioritizes the unique needs of women.

Through its intentional collaboration, WHCC is taking direct aim at addressing the gaps that often leave women and their health concerns marginalized by seeking to shatter misconceptions, raising awareness about inequities, and advocating for vital increased funding for medical research.

The WHCC founding members’ research partner institutions, including the Women’s College Research Institute, make up another group, the Partnership for Women’s Health Research Canada (PWHR), which has led women’s health research seminars, capacity-building workshops, virtual national mentoring sessions, and networking events for trainees.

All of this urgent and necessary work requires the support and collaboration of partners beyond the collective.

Financial investment is critical, which is why we are especially grateful for the generosity of Shoppers Foundation for Women’s Health™.  Shoppers Foundation’s steadfast and ongoing commitment to fostering health equity for women across Canada has played a pivotal role in helping fuel groundbreaking research initiatives led by WHCC.

This past year, WHCC was once again proud to partner with Shoppers Foundation as recipients of their 2023 holiday campaign to raise funds for women’s health research. For the second consecutive year, $240,000 was donated to WCHF through WHCC at Shoppers in-store self-checkout locations across the province. These funds were part of a national campaign that raised $720,000. This is in addition to a $500,000 pledge by Shoppers Foundation for Women’s Health™ over the next two years to help further the efforts of the WHCC to advance equity, excellence, and inclusion through research.

“Shoppers Foundation for Women’s Health envisions a future where care is equitable and accessible so that all women in Canada can lead healthier lives. We are proud to support the Women’s Health Collective of Canada, as equitable and accessible care starts with advancing research in women’s health.”

“At Women’s College Hospital, we provide women-centred care,” said Leslie McCarley, President & CEO, WCHF. Our engagement with the two other women-focused hospital foundations in Canada – BC Women’s Health Foundation and Alberta Women’s Health Foundation – propels critical research beyond our walls into communities across Canada.

”Through partnerships such as our engagement with Shoppers Foundation for Women’s Health, we are raising the bar on women’s health, and changing the way women experience healthcare.”
