LCBO: Over 10 Million Reasons to Say Thank You

Since 2019, LCBO has partnered with Women’s College Hospital Foundation to support equity-focused research, critical programs and services at Women’s College Hospital.

This year, the company with the integral support of their employees, surpassed a significant milestone – $10 million in donations raised!

Through their Spirit of Sustainability social impact platform, the LCBO and customers across Ontario have generously raised more than $10 million for the hospital, including more than $2 million this past year alone. WCHF was the dedicated recipient of funding from the LCBO’s Equity campaign in March 2024, which included donations that went towards the funding of vital initiatives such as our Mental Health Programs and the Substance Use Service Program – one of the only hospital-based addictions programs in Ontario.

The Substance Use Service Program uses a unique model of care in the Rapid Access Addiction Medicine Clinic. This model brings together healthcare providers from across WCH to offer patients comprehensive and collaborative care that supports their journey towards health. With LCBO’s support, a notable gap in program care has been closed with the addition of a peer support worker to help patients navigate an often-complex healthcare system. By enhancing the service provided to patients, we help to increase patients’ long-term recovery success and offer emotional support and guidance throughout their journey. All of this work leads to better health outcomes.

WCHF was also among the proud partners of LCBO’s “Love Pairs With Everything” 2023 Pride Month campaign to raise funds for diverse 2SLGBTQ+ communities across the province. As a result, WCHF continued to receive critical funding to help support the expansion of the Transition Related Surgery (TRS) program – the first of its kind at a publicly funded hospital in Ontario.

With additional funding from donors like LCBO, the TRS team aims to offer 380 surgeries this year. WCH also hosts the only TRS post-operative care clinic in Canada, supporting over 400 patients who have had surgery elsewhere, and offering assessment, treatment, care navigation, and ongoing surgical care. In addition to leading surgical achievements, the TRS Program team has demonstrated leadership in education and research, including:

  • Over 100 presentations delivered to stakeholders across healthcare, research, and academia
  • A curriculum in post-surgical care offered three times a year, training hundreds of providers across Canada
  • The development of the first TRS Fellowship to train surgeons to perform gender-affirming procedures
  • Educational support to the community with free virtual seminars for trans and gender diverse people and their loved ones making important gender-affirming decisions.

As LCBO enters its sixth year in partnership with WCHF, their transformational support continues to help WCH remain on the leading edge of health innovation.
